City Council

The City of Sanford, NC is operated under the Council-Manager form of government, which was adopted in 1944. Policy making and legislative authority is vested in a City Council consisting of seven Council members and a Mayor who are elected in odd-numbered years.

The City Manager is employed by the Council and is responsible to the City Council for the administration of all affairs of the municipality. The City Manager appoints the department heads and supervises and coordinates the activities of the departments.

Schedule

The Sanford City Council meets on the first and third Tuesdays of each month in Council Chambers at the Sanford Municipal Center, located at 225 E. Weatherspoon Street, Sanford NC. Meetings begin at 7pm.

There is also a Law and Finance Committee meeting every Wednesday prior to a Council Meeting. Effective July 30, 2014, this meeting will begin at 5pm in Council Chambers.
