SBI investigating Sanford police officer involved shooting

SANFORD - At the request of the Sanford Police Department, the SBI is investigating a Wednesday shooting incident involving a Sanford police officer who was attempting to serve warrants on Travis Faison, 26, for attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. The warrants were in connection with a Dec. 5 shooting in Sanford.

A preliminary investigation indicates that members of the Sanford Police Department located Faison outside of 621 Magnolia Street in Sanford. Faison headed inside the residence and Officer Brently William Brown, 23, followed Faison inside the home.

The shooting occurred inside the residence. Faison had a firearm, which was recovered by the SBI.

Emergency medical attention was called to the residence; however, Faison died on the scene.

Officer Brown is on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Due to the ongoing investigation, further details on this case will not be released at this time.
